VDE152.UPD
----------
E. Meyer - 4/3/90
This is a quick guide, for users of earlier versions of VDE, to noticable
changes in operation of VDE since version 1.51. Please check VDE.DOC and
VINST.DOC for full details.
VDE
1. Several changes have been made in syntax for loading files:
(a) The load new file command (^KL) will now accept a comma-delimited list
of files, just like AltL. The difference remains: with ^KL the (first) file
loaded will REPLACE the current file.
In addition, to reduce confusion,
(b) AltL now assumes the SAME default directory as ^KL (that of the current
file), instead of the DOS default.
(c) Semicolons are no longer accepted as file delimiters, only commas. The
semicolon is once again the delimiter for a VDF/K file, replacing the plus
sign. (This returns to the command line syntax of versions prior to 1.50.)
See SYNTAX.
MINOR ENHANCEMENTS
1. The macro record command (Esc") now turns Insert OFF when invoked,
for compatibility with the way macros are run. If you want to enter either
insert mode you must use the appropriate command(s) in the macro.
NOTE: If you have favorite macros or macro programs, please
consider sharing them with other users of VDE. Drop me a
postcard, or Email your macros to my CompuServe ID,
[74415,1305].
2. All ASCII control codes can now be entered into the text. Most are
entered with ^P; the code ^Z (1Ah) must be entered with AltG as a graphics
character. See PRINTER CODES and GRAPHICS.
3. There is now more space in VINSTALL to accomodate the longer escape
sequences that many laser printers require for special print effects. Each of
the printer codes (formerly 7 bytes) can now extend to 31 bytes.
NOTE: If you use VDE with any other printer that you have to
install yourself, please consider sending me the codes for
underline, bold, etc. so that I can add a new driver to the
menu. Drop me a postcard, or Email your ".VDP" file to my
CompuServe ID, [74415,1305].
4. Several small problems have been fixed, including the use of the "N"
and "C" numbering options in printing (^KP).
VDE151.UPD
----------
E. Meyer - 3/7/90
This is a quick guide, for users of earlier versions of VDE, to noticable
changes in operation of VDE since version 1.5. Please check VDE.DOC and
VINST.DOC for full details.
VDE
1. Two new document filemodes have been added, to simplify reading and
writing files for word processors other than WordStar: "/P" mode is for
WordPerfect; "/X" mode is for XyWrite, and other programs which do not have
carriage returns at the end of each line. See FILE MODES.
2. A new command, ^], toggles "Word Insert" mode. See INSERTING.
3. A new command, ^K^ (^K-caret) command reverses the case (upper/lower)
of all text within the marked block. See UPPER/LOWER CASE.
VINSTALL
1. The Printer Installation menu contains new printer drivers for:
Toshiba P321SL, HP LaserJet
2. The character width table for proportional printing (^OJ) can now be
accessed and modified with VINSTALL.
MINOR ENHANCEMENTS
1. The macro definition commands Esc[, Esc] have been simplified. Both
commands now give you the chance either to (re)use the macro or to store it;
and both ask for a Quiet/No-Repeat choice with a simple, separate prompt.
2. The file browser (^KF) now has a new command, "/", to specify a
different file mode before loading a file. See FILES.
3. The proportional width table has been improved, and proportional
printing (^OJ) standardized so that the "right margin" setting translates
easily into print width: 70 characters = 7.0 inches, etc. See PROPORTIONAL
SPACING.
4. The Graphics (AltG) command now allows you to define a graphic by
selecting it from a display of all characters in the range 80-FF. See
GRAPHICS.
5. At any filename prompt, you can type ^R to replay the last filename
entered previously.
